Marsa Alam
Egypt
Marsa Alam was an “up-and-coming” destination on the Red Sea in 2007, following the opening of a new airport and the rapid development of hotels and tourism infrastructure.
This masterplan was developed by Graham Applin through his London-based practice, Applin Design, for the developer Cypriot. The project covered 110 hectares and proposed the development of three hotels, a village centre, and nearly 2,000 residential apartments.
The plan responded to the natural desert wadis, creating view corridors for the residential areas, with the objective that 60% of the units would enjoy sea views.
