The Ritz Carlton
Dubai
Completed 1995
The Ritz-Carlton resort was designed and constructed in two phases. The first phase consisted of a 250-key resort hotel, while the second phase added a further 150 keys and a conference centre.
The design brief given to Graham Applin whilst he was working with WAT&G was to follow the architectural principles of the Alhambra in Granada, Spain. Its proportions and ornamental detailing were closely studied, resulting in a Moorish-inspired architectural language for the hotel.
The Ritz-Carlton went on to receive numerous design awards and set a precedent for the architecture of large resort hotels worldwide.
