The Carter Group approached G2A Studio to participate in a competition for a site on Cathedral Square, proposing two hotels and a residential tower.
G2A Studio explored a futuristic vision, designing hotels that would suit the year 2050 while also respecting the predicted railway alignment of one of the hotels. In doing so, the proposal aimed to create a development suited to a “City of the Future.”
The development featured a retail podium and introduced an activated laneway between the podium and the new Conference Centre. A sky path was also proposed, linking the Avon River to Cathedral Square.
The two hotels were interconnected by a sky bridge and shared amenities such as rooftop pools, sky gardens, and a destination health spa. The complete project incorporated three restaurants and numerous independent food and beverage outlets, as well as a flagship store for a premium retail brand.
The hotels incorporated louvred photovoltaic façades, creating a zero-energy, carbon-neutral development.
